| A spectacular circuit trek
through Himalayan foothills to the Goecha La This classic Himalayan
trekking adventure begins in thehill-station of Darjeeling, in sight of
the snow-capped summit of Kangchendzonga (8586m / 28,162ft). Crossing
the border into Sikkim, our trek to the world's third highest peak
starts out through unspoiled villages and farmland beneath the
Singalila Ridge which forms the border between India and Nepal.
Climbing up into a high mountain wilderness, we find views that extend
to the distant peaks of Everest and Makalu. Our route takes us via high
passes and a succession of lovely camping places to the valley of the
Prek Chu. Here, above sacred Samity Lake, we make our ascent to the
Goecha-la. A high and dramatically situated pass, directly opposite
Kangchendzonga’s huge south-east face. This quite superb circuit trek
includes fabulous mountain scenery, as well as the chance to visit some
of the most interesting towns in this fascinating part of the world. Name of Program : Goechal-La (4865m)Trek Places Visit : Delhi or Kolkata-Martam-Gangtok-Yuksom-Tsoka-Dzongr-Thanshing-Sumethang-Goecha-La-sumethang-Thanshing-Kalimpong-Darjeeling-Bagdogra. Duration Best Time : March-May OR October-November. Day 01 Arrival Delhi OR Kolkata : Upon arrival met to our representative, greet and transfer to hotel for res t of the night. Day 02 Delhi OR Kolkata : Full day local sightseeing. Overnight at hotel. Day 30 Delhi OR Bagdogra (Flight) - Martam (4 hrs drive) : On arrival at Bagdogra, meet to our local staff, transfer to Martam. On arrival check in hotel, for ovrngiht. Rest of the time leisure. Day 04 Martam-Gangtok (By road, 4 hrs drive): Morning, after breakfast drive to Gangtok, en route visit Rumtak Monastery, on arrival check in hotel later commence sightseeing, covering Directorate of Handicraft & Handloom, Enchey Monastery, Research Institute of Tibetology, Do Drul Chorten and Orchid Sanctuary (Depand on session). Overnight at Hotel. Day 05Gangtok : Take an excursion for Tshangu Lake.Overnight at Hotel . Day 06 Gangtok-Yuksom (By road, 5 hrs drive) : Transfer to Yuksom . Afternoon a walking tour of the Norbugang (stone throne) where he was crowned. You also visit the Dubdi Monastery (The Hermit Cell)- the oldest monastery in Sikkim built in 1700. You experience a typical Himalayan lifestyle at Yuksom. Overnight at Hotel. Day 07 Yuksom-Tsoka (Trek) : Following an early morning start, you trek for three hours through lush green meadows and cross four mountain streams. Henceforth, the trek is a continuous uphill path lined with conifers and is virtually carpeted with a bed of leaves to leach Bakhim- a hill village at an altitude of 2744 mtrs. Tsoka is a slightly larger settlement with a few houses, a monastery and is the last village on the route. You spend the night at Tsoka at an altitude of 3049 mtrs. Day 08 Tsoka-Dzongri (Trek, 5 hrs) : Early morning trek to Dzongri, The vegetation changes to stunted bushes of rhododendrons and miniature pine trees resembling bonsais as you gain altitude with every step to reach Dzongri which is at an altitude of 4030 mtrs..Overnight at tent. Day 09 Dzongri : Dzongri is picture of solitude surrounded by hills and mountains on all sides. The mountain fortress has no settlements except for two trekkers huts. An early morning trek at around 4.30 am to Dzongri top which at 4269 mtrs is higher than most mountain peaks in Europe, presents yet another view of the Kanchenjunga along with other ranges basking in the glory of the rising sun. We return to the camp site and spend the day to acclimatize. Day 10 Dzongri-Thanshing (Trek, 6 hrs): You lose altitude during the first half of the trek and steadily regain it as you walk along the river Prekchu, a tributary of the Rangeet, before you reach your camping site at Thanshing. Thanshing at an altitude of 3842 mtrs. is the base camp for mountaineering expeditions to Mt. Tinchinkhan (6010 mtrs) overnight tent. Day 11 Thanshing- Sumethan (Trek, 7 hrs): You set out early for your destination- Sumethang at 4440 mtrs. The trekkers hut here is on a small piece of picturesque flat land no larger than two tennis courts surrounded by imposing mountains on all sides. Blending with the backdrop is a pristine blue water lake of glacial origin with an adjoining stream to form a picture which is nature lover’s ultimate dream. You stop here for the night. Day 12 Sumethang-Goecha-La-sumethang-Thanshing : Early morning commence trek. In the morning equipped with torches braving the temperature of 90 below zero and climb to Goechala (the Goecha Pass)- a path way located at 4955 mtrs, higher than any place in Europe. After sun shine, the area is engulfed with fog and cloned banks. You return to Sumethang to collect your gear and move down to Thanshing. Day 13 Thanshing-Tsoka (Trek, 5 hrs) : You take a short route back to Tsoka through dense forests. We call it a day at Tsoka. Day 14 Tsoka-Yuksom : Morning commence trek to Yuksom, you are walking downhill to Yuksom. A visit to the Dubdi monastery- one of the oldest in Sikkim. Day 15 Yuksom-Kalimpong (By road, 7 hrs drive) : Transfer to Kalimpong .Check in at Hotel. Evening free to explore the small hilly town on your own. Overnight at Hotel. Day 16 Kalimpong : Morning day for relax. Afternoon visit Dr. Graham’s Home, Flower Nurseries, Jang-Dong-Palriffo Brang, Nature Interpretation centre and Durbin Dara Hills. Overnight at Hotel. Day 17 Kalimpong-Darjeeling : Transfer to Darjeeling .Check in at Hotel. Evening free to explore the small hilly town on your own. Overnight at Hotel. Day 18 Darjeeling : Early morning tour to Tiger Hills (at around 4 am) to view sunrise over Kanchenjunga Peak (subject to clear weather). On way back visit Ghoom Monastery, Batasia Loop. Afternoon Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Gumbu Rock,Tibetan Refugee Self – Help Center, Tea Estate. Overnight at Fortune Hotel Central Day 19 Darjeeling-Bagdogra-Delhi or Kolkata (By Road, 4 hrs drive/ Flight) : Early morning drive to Bagdogra, afternoon take flight to Delhi or Kolkata. Overnight at hotel. Day 20 Delhi or Kolkata : Full day local sightseeing, after dinner, transfer to international airport for take onward flight. |
